Have you come across ” I ” Specialists in your work life ? I am sure you have even though you may not readily recognize them . They are every where stealing the limelight or thunder from those poor and deserving DOERS who choose to remain always in the background .
You as a columnist write an original piece about a recent sensational incident and your Assistant Editor does some cosmetic changes and publishes it in his name . In the R & D Department , you come out with a break through innovation and your team leader dismisses it as a fluke but brings it up later as his original idea . But the ” I ” specialist goes much beyond such indiscretions and takes total credit for all ‘sparks ” displayed by his team members .
If the ” I ” Specialist is your CEO , then to the outside world ” HE is the Company ” and other lesser mortals like you do not exist beyond the scalar chain . Jim Collins and his Level 5 Leaders in his well researched publication titled ” Good to Great ” can go to ……… . All good things which happened to the company are attributed to the boss and all bad things are ” force majeure ” or due to the subordinates ‘ inaction .
Great philosophy for Self Preservation in the Corporate Jungle.
