The Bhopal gas tragedy–a disaster which has no parallel in the world refuse to go away from our troubled memory.Thousands of victims still begging for compensation, a number of legal wrangles with no solutions in sight, insensitive bureacrats haggling for their pound of flesh like vultures on a prey, political opportunism of a banal dimension, primitive medical care mired in controversies – all these on going drama even after 25 years after 3rd Dec 1984 point to a deep rooted malaisse in our body politic. Do we carry on this way with this national shame for another 25 years?.
It is ironic that the day also falls on the “World Disability day” as Bhopal has created many thousand freshly disabled people to our population through man made causes.

The nation needs to wake up and institute long term solutions for such crimes committed on humanity by industrial monsters whether they are MNC’s or domestic players. A thorough overhaul of the enforcing and compliance machinery with genuine empathy and clear value systems need to replace the present corrupt systems and procedures to prevent such disasters in our country. It is everybody’s business and not merely that of the nation state alone . Such a pledge taken on this day will be a fitting response and tribute to all those victims who perished on that fateful night 25 years ago or are still languishing with disabilities for life, thanks to the national apathy meted out to them.We can ill afford another BHOPAL!!
