Yesterday my six year old grand daughter proudly showed me her certificate which she got from the Kumon North America Teaching Center . She got distinction in maths  and entry into their ” Hall of Fame ” . The proud parents beamed with happiness . I remember , her mother , my daughter , was good in Maths except that she was not sure whether to add or subtract when any arithmetic calculation was given to her !! . That was way back in the seventies when the binary system with Boolean algebra was newly  introduced to help computing digitally .

I have always wondered if there is any connection between mathematical proficiency and life skills .  Can we say that if you are good at deciphering when to add or subtract  when confronted with a mathematical problem , you can cope with the pluses and minuses in Life ? .

Can you really calculate the imponderables of  Life using algebra and geometry ?
