The world of work in the 21st century in the globally connected environment throws up many new challenges for the management , leaders , business and the people in general .
The business infrastructure looks to create a congenial work environment to simulate a family setting at the workplace – creches , gym , break out areas , deli , fun games and the like . At home , executives create office space to work from home amidst household chores . We have office on the move in cars and planes with video and audio streaming with conference facilities .
The concept of working time has no great relevance now as you can be reached anywhere 24 hours of the day . The mantra of work life balance of the last decade has given way to work life blending now – I can work on my tablet and also watch my son practicing his base ball in the ground !
What we miss probably in this rat race is that we lose the sense of the moment while doing the balancing or blending act all the time . We cannot be mentally alert on two diverse objects at the same time as we are not essentially wired that way . One of the item therefore will perforce suffer . This was old virtue and is the new sin !
At a greater plane , is work independent of life ?
