The year 1979 . We were at Baroda . My young  daughter aged five was to give her first ever  performance as part of a welcome  dance in her school  anniversary event at 6.30 PM . We promised her that we will be there to watch the show. We , me and my wife ,  started on time  in my scooter , 10 minutes before , as it was only a mile to the school but due to some traffic problem  we reached the venue at 6.32 PM . When we entered the hall , the children were just leaving the stage after the dance  .  We could see our daughter walking away and we knew that we failed to keep our promise!! .

When we met her back stage , she was looking very disappointed . She was looking for us in the audience , she told us . Needless to say, we felt miserable .

I narrated this incident to my daughter when she called from the US yesterday and told me about her four year old daughter ‘ s activities in her school .  And I told her  ” remember always to keep your promises you make to your child “
