During the late sixties , PERT [Program Evaluation and Review Technique ] and CPM [Critical Path Methods ] were gaining popularity as very useful and innovative Project Management Tools in India . A number of seminars were organized by various management associations across the country to explain the new techniques . Subsequently , these got incorporated in MBA syllabus .
My first exposure to these techniques was when I was at Hyderabad as a junior officer in the Army . Some of us were invited to attend a presentation on PERT and CPM at the local chapter of the Institution of Engineers . The presentation was to commence at 6 PM and when we reached the venue at 5.55 PM , there was utter confusion. No seating for participants , public address systems being connected , the floor being cleaned and to top it all , the team of presenters were not in as yet !!!.
And , we were going to attend a presentation on PERT and CPM ???.
