Small People !!

The ” Grand Oil Spill ” at the BP off shore site in the Gulf of Mexico and the reported statement by BP Chairman Carl -Henric Svansberg  about caring for ” Small People ”  has again brought the age old demographic divide  to sharp focus . It is true that the BP Chief apologized for his indiscretion in using the words   but he cannot re-write history with an apology. It is the classic mindset of the Rich and Famous when they look at the human  beings at the bottom of the economic pyramid .

The Bhopal Gas tragedy in India 25 years ago  or the many brutal killings in Somalia due to gang war  or the disaster in the southern levies all point to the great insensitivity of the privileged when they express crocodile tears for the sufferings of poor and under privileged people  anywhere in the world . Therefore , there is nothing different about Mr Svansberg’s  addressing those largely affected by the oil spill as small people . To him and people like him , it amounts to CHARITY at best  and they  always condescend to offer DOLES .

Let the Rich not give any help or assistance in the form of Charity to the poor people in this world  – Let them at least refrain from insulting their fellow human beings !!!
